1984

1984
George Orwell
[1949]

Resumiendo doublethink con inmortales palabras de George Constanza: "It's not a lie if you believe it".

WAR IS PEACE
FREEDOM IS SLAVERY
IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH

This process of continuous alteration was applied not only to newpapers, but to books, periodicals, pamphlets, posters, leaflets, films, sound-tracks, cartoons, photographs (...) Day by day and almost minute by minute the past was brought up to date.

Doublethink means the power of holding two contradictory beliefs in one's mind simultaneously, and accepting both of them. (...) The process has to be conscious, or it would not be carried with sufficient precision, but it also has to be unconscious, or it would bring with it a feeling of falsity and hence of guilt.

'What is in Room 101?'
The expression on O'Brien's face did not change. He answered drily:
'You know what is in Room 101, Winston. Everyone knows what is in Room 101.'

Nineteen Eighty-Four
[1984]
Dir: Michael Radford

This is our land. A land of peace and of plenty. A land of harmony and hope. This is our land. Oceania.

Oldthinkers unbellyfeel Ingsoc. Think in newspeak.

-Heard the rumour?
-No. Good news, is it?
-I should say so, yes. Choco rations going up.
-Really?
-25g next week. Doubleplusgood, eh?

-You are thought criminal!

-I hate purity. I hate goodness. I don't want virtue to exist anywhere. I want everyone corrupt.
-Well, I ought to suit you then. I am corrupt to the core
-Do you like doing this? I don't mean just me
-I adore it

"The war is not meant to be won. It is meant to be continuous. The essential act of modern warfare is the destruction of the produce of human labour. (...) In principle, the war effort is planned to keep society on the brink of starvation."

-What do you want?

Qué mal, no?
